Why has my pet stopped eating?

A change in appetite is one of the most common signs that something is shifting in an aging or ill pet. It can be caused by nausea, pain, medication side effects, changes in the senses of smell or taste, or a natural decline in appetite as part of the body's process. Rather than panicking, the first step is to observe carefully — note when, how much, and under what conditions your pet is or isn't eating — and discuss what you're seeing with your veterinarian.
